If that's enough to turn you on to a film, do not pass this one up--you're sure to love it. This is one of the most brutal and gory films I've seen, and yes, I've seen the (trailers to) films of Lars Von Trier 😎. However, if those things are enough to turn your stomach instead, you shouldn't come near this film with a two-foot needle. That being said, any potential viewer will be able to gauge their prospective mileage… The most brutal and depraved 13 year old boy fantasy ever put on screen. it's really worrying that after watching such a perverted & vile movie my first thought was "ok i want to steal all of kakihara's clothes" The World Is More Than Enough 3: You Haven't Seen That Yet?! 3/30 - Japan It says here that Ichi The Killer is 129 minutes long. Not hours. So how come it felt much longer? I am a fan of Takeshi Miike but from the films I've seen from him, generally it seems I'm in trouble when he decides to do something longer. The only exception to that would be Gozu, a film I regard as something of a minor modern masterpiece of violent delirium, sexual deviance and black comedy.

A yakuza acid trip of grand proportions. A commentary on toxic masculinity, sexual drive and violence, all while reveling in its subject matter to the fullest cinematic technique possible. Quite possibly the greatest climax of any revenge/crime film I've seen. A truly unclassifiable movie with endless texture. Both thematically and visually. The most telling detail is that Ichi— who clearly has notorious high kicks—is a Hwoarang main in Tekken 3, a game he is seen to frequently play during his free time in the film; a character known for his fast high kick moves. Therefore, Ichi deliberately fights like Hwoarang. This is my pristine gaming and cinema knowledge showcased for this very moment. Miike knows Tekken. He is a man of extreme taste. Anyways this is some wild masochistic incel core shit and I love it. I can see a lot of people considering this to be gratuitous which is understandable. And I don't mean to sound like one of those cinephiles who says "That's the point. " But I do feel… Pretty gross.

It has appeared on lists as one of the most disgusting films of all time. And you know what? I loved every second of it. Am I twisted? Psychotic? Sick? Maybe. Within the film's grotesque ultra violence, however, lies its beauty. The torture scenes could be seen by some as a form of art. The cat-and-mouse, will-they-won't-they story of a masochist looking for his ultimate sadist partner was a unique, thrilling story, and one that never lets up. Kakihara (the man in the poster on the film's Letterboxd page) is a badass gangster who smokes and blows the smoke through two gigantic slits pierced through his… Recent reviews all of miike's movies make me: 1) wince 2) laugh 3) look up the soundtrack after Had some moments of incredible effects work, some moments of incredibly funny black comedy, but mostly it was just "oh that's pretty fucked up but not in an interesting way. " Kakihara's outfits, especially that sparkly sequin jacket at the end, are worth a full extra star. Dreamlike and Nightmarish.
